An anti-war veterans group has pledged to spend $60 million backing Democratic candidates in the 2026 midterm elections, marking one of the largest single-issue efforts in the cycle.
VoteVets plans to direct the funds toward 331 Democratic candidates, including 20 in House and Senate races and 311 in down-ballot contests. This represents the group's highest spending total since its founding.
The organization has already demonstrated its impact in key races. In Iowa's Senate primary, VoteVets spent $9.7 million on advertising and mailers to help state Rep. Josh Turek secure the nomination after another veteran candidate dropped out. The group is now pouring an additional $4.5 million into ads targeting Republican Rep. Ashley Hinson over her support for the conflict with Iran.
VoteVets often aligns with Democratic leadership priorities despite operating independently. The group has faced past scrutiny over funding ties, with significant contributions from Democratic-aligned super PACs such as the Senate Majority PAC.
The spending comes amid a broader surge in veteran candidates running for Congress, with Democrats fielding a record share this cycle according to nonpartisan trackers. VoteVets focuses on anti-war messaging and veteran issues while backing mostly Democratic contenders.
This level of investment positions the group among the top spenders in the midterms, rivaling other major advocacy organizations in scale.
