Penn State appeared firmly in control after building a 17-0 lead in the second quarter, but Wisconsin completely flipped the game after intermission and shut out the Nittany Lions over the final two quarters, winning 24-20.

Penn State opened the scoring with a field goal before its defense produced the game’s first touchdown. Freshman cornerback Josiah Zayas intercepted Wisconsin quarterback Colton Joseph and returned it 51 yards for a score, making it 10-0. The Nittany Lions added another touchdown in the second quarter when quarterback Rocco Becht scored on a three-yard run. Wisconsin finally answered with a seven-yard touchdown run by Joseph and trailed 17-7 at halftime.

The Badgers began chipping away in the third quarter. A 34-yard field goal from Gavin Lahm cut the deficit to 17-10 before Ryan Barker answered with a 37-yard field goal for Penn State. That would be the Nittany Lions’ final points of the afternoon.

Wisconsin took over in the fourth quarter. With 3:37 remaining, Joseph connected with Eugene Hilton Jr. for an 11-yard touchdown, cutting the lead to 20-17 after the extra point. Minutes later, with 1:14 left, Joseph found Jacob Harris for a 72-yard touchdown that put the Badgers ahead 23-20. Lahm’s extra point made it 24-20.

Penn State had one final chance but could not reach the end zone. Becht was sacked with 25 seconds remaining, and two incomplete passes followed, sealing the victory for Wisconsin.

Joseph finished with 235 passing yards and two touchdown passes while adding 39 rushing yards and a score. Harris led the Badgers with five catches for 105 yards, including the decisive 72-yard reception. Penn State managed just 230 total yards and was held scoreless in the second half. Becht completed only 12 of 29 passes for 111 yards and threw an interception.

The win moved Wisconsin to 3-1 and gave the Badgers a signature road victory to open Big Ten play. Penn State fell to 3-1 after entering the game ranked No. 13.
