The deadline to file claims in a $68 million class action settlement over Google Assistant privacy allegations falls on Thursday, August 27.

The settlement resolves claims in In re Google Assistant Privacy Litigation in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. Plaintiffs alleged that Google Assistant recorded private conversations without deliberate activation through "false accepts" and that some recordings were shared with third-party review vendors, violating user privacy and Google's policies.

Google and its parent company Alphabet agreed to the settlement without admitting wrongdoing. Eligible class members include those who purchased a Google-made device in the United States or its territories between May 18, 2016, and March 19, 2026. The Privacy Settlement Class covers individuals whose communications were recorded by Google Assistant due to a false accept or disclosed to a third-party vendor during the same period.

Payouts will be distributed on a points-based, pro rata basis from the $68 million fund after deductions for fees, costs, and administration. No fixed payment amounts have been set, and estimates vary depending on the total number of valid claims submitted.

Claims must be submitted online at the official settlement website or postmarked by the August 27 deadline. The same date serves as the deadline to opt out of the settlement or file objections. A final approval hearing is scheduled for October 1, 2026.

Class members who received notice emails with a Unique ID and PIN can use those to file. Others may still submit claims if they qualify. The settlement covers nationwide claims but remains subject to court approval.
