President Donald Trump warned against local opposition to AI data centers during an interview with former attorney Michael Cohen that aired on 77 WABC Radio Sunday evening.

Trump described rejecting such projects as a mistake that would cost communities jobs and tax revenue. He noted that data centers create tremendous economic activity and that many localities actively seek them.

The president highlighted America's lead over China in artificial intelligence and said data centers would help maintain that edge. He added that the facilities often include their own power plants and represent an industry that could surpass oil in scale.

The appearance marked a public reconciliation between Trump and Cohen, who played portions of the roughly 40-minute recorded interview on his weekly show. Trump said he respected Cohen for walking back prior statements.

Trump's comments come as data center projects face growing resistance in several states amid concerns over electricity demand and land use. The president has consistently promoted the buildout as essential for economic growth and technological superiority.

Supporters argue the projects deliver high-paying jobs and boost local tax bases with minimal long-term disruption once operational. Trump has repeatedly urged governors and mayors to welcome the developments rather than block them.
