President Donald Trump delivered a powerful message Wednesday night at the Republican midterm convention in Dallas, laying out a series of priorities he said Republicans would pursue as they campaign for the November midterm elections.

“Together, we will have strong borders, low taxes, and no crime,” Trump said during his address. The president also emphasized American energy policy and said his administration would continue pursuing greater domestic energy production.

“We will have American energy independence and energy dominance,” Trump said.

Trump also highlighted his support for members of the military, veterans, and law enforcement.

“We will stand with the heroes of our military, our veterans, and our police and law enforcement,” he said, later ending the portion of his remarks with a broader political declaration. “Above all, we will defeat communism in America!”

Trump’s address came during the first national Republican convention specifically organized around a midterm election. The two-day event in Dallas is centered heavily on the president as Republicans seek to maintain congressional support for his administration ahead of the competitive November 3 elections.

The president has repeatedly urged voters to view the 2026 elections as a continuation of his administration’s agenda, telling supporters to treat the midterms as though he himself were on the ballot. He went on to further lay out a planned tour to campaign in key states with competitive House and Senate races that are crucial to GOP hopes of increasing their majority.

The convention's first day also featured prominent Republican candidates and officials delivering speeches of their own, touching on issues including immigration, taxes, energy, public safety and the economy.
