Trump Posts Image Declaring “The Moon Is Ours”

President Donald Trump posted an image of the Moon on Truth Social Sunday featuring an American flag alongside the words, “The Moon is ours.”

The image quickly drew attention on social media, with Trump offering no additional explanation or caption alongside the post. The message comes as his administration continues to emphasize American leadership in space exploration, including plans for a renewed lunar presence.

In December 2025, Trump signed an executive order titled “Ensuring American Space Superiority,” establishing goals that include returning American astronauts to the Moon by 2028 and establishing initial elements of a permanent lunar outpost by 2030. The order also calls for expanding commercial space capabilities and preparing for future missions to Mars.

The administration has continued to advance those priorities this year. In August, Trump signed a national security memorandum aimed at expanding U.S. space transportation capabilities, including a goal of supporting more than 1,000 launches and reentries annually by 2030.

The White House has also highlighted the April 2026 Artemis II mission, which sent American astronauts around the Moon for the first time in more than 50 years. The administration has described the broader effort as part of a push to maintain U.S. leadership in space exploration, technology and commercial development.

Trump’s latest post offered no indication of a new policy or change in existing space agreements. Instead, the image appeared to reinforce the administration’s broader message of American ambition and leadership in space.
