Buc-ee’s is moving forward with plans for its first Oklahoma location at the northwest corner of Interstate 40 and Cimarron Road in western Oklahoma City, where a major interchange improvement project is now moving through the city approval process.

The Oklahoma City Council is set to consider an agreement involving the city, the Oklahoma Department of Transportation and CSMS Management LLC, the company connected to the proposed Buc-ee’s development. The agreement covers improvements to the I-40 interchange bridge, approaches, and ramps near the planned travel center.

The project is estimated to cost approximately $25 million. Under the proposed agreement, ODOT would cover 45.5% of the cost, Oklahoma City would provide 30.3%, and CSMS Management would contribute the remaining 24.2%.

The city previously received a $10 million federal grant for the project through the office of U.S. Sen. Markwayne Mullin. According to city officials, those funds have already been deposited with ODOT.

CSMS Management would be responsible for engineering design, environmental studies and permitting. Oklahoma City would handle right-of-way acquisition, utility relocation and other related requirements.

Once the plans receive federal approval, ODOT would oversee construction and inspection of the interchange improvements.

Official documents indicate the planning and construction process could take roughly eight years. The development is another step toward bringing Buc-ee’s to Oklahoma, although an official opening date for the Oklahoma City location has not yet been announced.
