Fox News joined the other four members of the White House television pool Monday in refusing to provide a replacement crew after CNN was prevented from carrying out its scheduled coverage of Trump. The decision means the five-network pool will not provide shared television footage of presidential events for now.

Fox News Washington Bureau Chief Bryan Boughton, who is serving as the pool chairman, notified the networks that the pool would stop covering events designated for presidential pool coverage. “There will be no replacement pool put in place,” Boughton wrote.

The five-network pool consists of ABC News, CBS News, CNN, NBC News and Fox News. The networks rotate responsibility for filming the president and share the resulting footage with other news organizations when access is limited. CNN was scheduled to handle the pool Monday during Trump's trip to New York for the United Nations General Assembly.

The move came after Trump barred CNN, MS NOW and POLITICO from the White House. The three organizations filed a lawsuit Monday challenging the restrictions, alleging violations of their First Amendment rights. The White House has defended the restrictions, while Trump has accused the outlets of publishing what he calls “FAKE NEWS.”

In a joint statement, Fox News, ABC, CBS, CNN and NBC said, “The public has a vital interest in receiving accurate, independent information about its government,” and argued that no administration should restrict a news organization because of its reporting.

The decision does not end all pool operations. Coverage of Congress, other government officials, and selected events is expected to continue, but the networks will not provide the usual shared television camera coverage for Trump's presidential events under the current arrangement.
