A federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent shot and wounded a man Sunday afternoon in North Austin, according to multiple local and state officials.

The shooting took place in the 7000 block of West Anderson Lane near U.S. 183 and Research Boulevard. The man was transported to a local hospital by Austin-Travis County EMS and was reported to be alert and talking during transport.

Austin police officers were not involved in the shooting itself. City officials said Austin officers responded to assist with traffic control and closed part of the southbound frontage road near Research Boulevard and Anderson Square.

A dark blue Toyota Corolla remained at the scene under an overpass, showing damage to the passenger-side door and what appeared to be bullet holes. Witnesses and video described law enforcement activity at the location, with a large presence including Austin police and Texas Department of Public Safety personnel.

The event comes amid ongoing federal immigration enforcement operations across the country under the Trump administration.

The circumstances leading to the shooting remain under investigation, and the man's identity and condition have not been released. ICE is handling the federal investigation into the incident.
