U.S. Secret Service officers arrested a Venezuelan national Thursday night after finding him in a stolen vehicle parked on Constitution Avenue with multiple firearms and ammunition.
The Department of Homeland Security identified the man as Ronny Yordrix Guanipa Chrinos, an illegal alien who entered the country unlawfully. Officers approached Chrinos after observing suspicious behavior in the vehicle near the White House complex. He told agents that voices in his head instructed him to travel to Washington, D.C., and kill President Donald Trump.
A search of the car uncovered three firearms—an AR-15-style rifle, a MAC-10 machine pistol, and a Glock 43X handgun—along with dozens of rounds of ammunition. The vehicle had been reported stolen in South Carolina.
Chrinos faces numerous charges, including carrying a rifle outside a home or business, three counts each of unlawful transportation of a firearm, unregistered firearms, and unregistered ammunition. Additional counts include possession of certain dangerous weapons, carrying a pistol without a license, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, theft, and receiving stolen property.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement placed a detainer on Chrinos, who remains in U.S. Marshals Service custody. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin credited Secret Service officers with preventing potential harm.
The incident occurred on November 5 and highlights ongoing security concerns around the White House amid a series of threats directed at the president since his return to office. DHS noted that Chrinos had been released into the country following an earlier border encounter.
