Vice President JD Vance embraced the world of Harry Potter for Halloween, dressing as Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore in a family costume display shared on social media Saturday, October 31.
Vance appeared in a long silver-gray robe, a matching pointed wizard hat and a gray wig and beard. He also held his youngest son, Alec, who was dressed as Dobby, the beloved house-elf from the franchise.
In a video posted online, Vance introduced himself as “Vice President Dumbledore” while holding his young son, wishing Americans a happy Halloween and encouraging everyone to stay safe and enjoy plenty of candy.
“Vice President Dumbledore here with little Dobby the Elf wishing you a Happy Halloween. Have fun. Be safe. Eat a lot of candy,” Vance said.

Second Lady Usha Vance and the couple’s other children joined the Harry Potter theme. One child dressed as Harry Potter, while others wore spider and dragon costumes. The family posed together on a porch decorated with pumpkins and autumn decorations.
Vance had hinted at his costume choice days earlier, explaining that his children were fans of J.K. Rowling’s books and that his white hair and beard made Dumbledore a natural fit.
The costume also marked a change from Vance’s Halloween appearance in 2025, when he dressed as the viral “Fat JD” internet meme.
The family’s Halloween photos and video offered a rare lighthearted glimpse of the vice president outside his official duties.
