Sen. John Kennedy, R-La., criticized President Donald Trump on Sunday after Trump publicly posted Sen. Tom Cotton’s cellphone number while pressuring the Arkansas Republican over a dispute involving daylight saving time.

Appearing on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Kennedy said Trump can be unpredictable in heated political disputes, describing him as someone who “can go from zero to a-hole in about three seconds.”

Kennedy said he considers Trump a friend but disagreed with the president’s decision to publish Cotton’s personal number on Truth Social.

“I don’t think he should have given out Tom’s cell phone number,” Kennedy said. “I don’t think that’s going to help convince Tom.”

Kennedy added a joke directed at host Kristen Welker, telling her that although he has her cell phone number, he would not publicly release it.

Trump had posted Cotton’s number while urging Arkansas voters to contact the senator over his opposition to legislation known as the Sunshine Protection Act, which would make daylight saving time permanent.

“To the Great People of Arkansas, please let your Senator know it would be a GREAT Bipartisan WIN for the United States Senate,” Trump wrote before directing voters to call Cotton.

Kennedy downplayed the underlying disagreement, arguing that the daylight saving time debate does not rise to the level of a major political crisis.

“Every now and then, there are disputes in Congress that have existential significance for the future of Western civilization,” Kennedy said. “Daylight saving time is not one of them.”

At the same time, Kennedy strongly defended Cotton, calling him a “rock star senator” and saying the Arkansas Republican is willing to fight aggressively for what he believes is best for his state.
