The Golden Gophers defeated Michigan 20-14 at Huntington Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, earning their first victory over the Wolverines since 1974.
The win came in the 100th meeting between the two programs and marked Minnesota’s first victory in the rivalry since a 30-14 win over Michigan in Ann Arbor in 2014.
Minnesota entered the game looking to end a five-game losing streak against Michigan. The Wolverines had won the previous five meetings, including a 27-24 victory in 2024.
Michigan took a 14-7 lead into halftime after Jordan Marshall scored on a five-yard touchdown run and Nik Staehling returned an interception for another score.
Minnesota answered in the second half. The Gophers added a field goal in the third quarter before taking control in the fourth.
Drake Lindsey connected with Darius Taylor for a three-yard touchdown with 13:47 remaining, putting Minnesota ahead 19-14. The Gophers added another point on the extra point to take a six-point lead.
Michigan had a chance to respond late, but the Wolverines were unable to move the ball. Quarterback Bryce Underwood finished 10-of-21 passing for 101 yards with two interceptions.
Minnesota's defense held Michigan to 180 total yards and forced three turnovers. The Gophers finished with 263 total yards while controlling possession for more than 37 minutes.
The victory gives Minnesota the Little Brown Jug, one of college football's oldest rivalry trophies. Michigan had dominated the series for decades, including a stretch in which the Wolverines won 44 of 48 meetings.
For Minnesota, Saturday's victory ended one of the longest droughts in the program's history against Michigan and delivered a major win in the 100th edition of the Little Brown Jug rivalry.
