Ving Rhames was released from a Los Angeles-area hospital on Wednesday evening after collapsing while eating with his family at a restaurant. The "Mission: Impossible" actor, 66, experienced the medical scare around 1:40 p.m. PT at a Granville restaurant in North Hollywood.
Eyewitnesses reported that Rhames suddenly collapsed at his table and appeared in and out of consciousness. Paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the call for a male in his 60s and transported him for evaluation.
A representative for Rhames told TMZ that the actor likely overheated but would be fine, and he was kept under observation as a precaution. By 5:39 p.m. PT, the rep confirmed Rhames had been discharged, was heading home, felt fine and was making jokes upon leaving.
Manager Brad Kramer echoed this to USA Today, saying he spoke with Rhames shortly after the incident and that the actor sounded normal, even making a humorous remark while hospitalized. Kramer added that Rhames may have overheated.
Rhames has built a decades-long career in Hollywood, most notably as IMF agent Luther Stickell in all eight "Mission: Impossible" films alongside Tom Cruise. He earned acclaim for portraying Marsellus Wallace in Quentin Tarantino's "Pulp Fiction" and appeared in films like "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," as well as voicing roles in "Call of Duty: WWII."
Born Irving Rameses Rhames on May 12, 1959, in Harlem, New York, the actor trained at the Juilliard School and continues to be a prominent figure in action and drama genres.
