Warner Bros.' Practical Magic 2 opened to $30 million domestically from 4,146 theaters this weekend, securing the number one position and ending the multi-week reign of Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

The film added $16 million from 77 international markets for a global debut of $46 million. The result landed at the lower end of pre-release projections for the $75 million-budgeted legacy sequel.

Directed by Susanne Bier, the movie stars Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman reprising their roles as witch sisters from the 1998 original. It also features new cast members including Joey King, Lee Pace, Maisie Williams, and Xolo Maridueña. The story follows a multi-generational family of witches confronting a curse of lovelessness.

Audience reception proved stronger than critic scores. The film earned a B+ CinemaScore, 92% on the Rotten Tomatoes audience score, and 4.5 out of 5 on PostTrak. Critics gave it a 37-39% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The opening outperformed the first film's inflation-adjusted debut while highlighting the enduring appeal of the property among millennial and Gen X women. Next weekend's performance will indicate whether the movie can expand beyond core fans amid competition from upcoming releases.

The domestic weekend total reached roughly $86 million, down from the prior frame as the box office transitions into fall.
