The Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Cleveland Guardians 3-1 on Tuesday night at Tropicana Field, evening the American League Championship Series at one game apiece and preventing Cleveland from taking a commanding lead in the best-of-seven matchup.

Rays starter Freddy Peralta delivered one of his strongest postseason performances, allowing just four hits over six scoreless innings while striking out six batters. The right-hander threw 99 pitches, including a fastball that reached 99.4 mph, keeping Cleveland off the scoreboard through the first six innings.

Tampa Bay broke the game open in the fourth inning, taking advantage of a costly defensive mistake by Cleveland third baseman José Ramírez. After a fielding error extended the inning, Liam Hicks delivered a two-run single to right-center field, giving the Rays a 3-0 advantage. All three runs in the inning were unearned against Guardians starter Parker Messick.

Cleveland finally got on the board in the seventh when rookie Chase DeLauter drove in a run with a double. However, Tampa Bay’s bullpen limited the damage, and Bryan Baker closed out the ninth inning to earn his fourth postseason save.

The Rays finished with seven hits, compared with six for Cleveland. Messick took the loss, while Peralta earned the victory.

The win gives Tampa Bay renewed momentum after Cleveland claimed Monday’s series opener 7-3. The teams will head to Cleveland for Game 3 on Thursday night, with the series now tied 1-1
