Russian forces struck the main railway station in Dnipro, Ukraine, with a jet-powered drone on Thursday morning, killing 13 people and wounding at least five others.
The attack hit a platform where passengers were boarding commuter train No. 866 bound for Zaporizhzhia, according to Ukrainian Railways. Officials said the strike occurred despite an air raid warning of heightened danger.
Dnipro Mayor Borys Filatov reported on social media that a drone hit a civilian electric passenger train, resulting in many deaths and injuries. Regional governor Oleksandr Hanzha confirmed the death toll at 13 and stated that at least five people were wounded, with medical personnel providing assistance at the scene.
Ukrzaliznytsia described the weapon as a jet-powered unmanned aerial vehicle that struck one of the platforms. Rescue teams, medics, and law enforcement responded immediately.
The incident marks another civilian casualty event in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. Dnipro, located in central Ukraine, has faced repeated strikes on infrastructure since the full-scale invasion began in 2022.
Some reports indicated a child among the wounded, with several injuries described as serious. Ukrainian officials continue to document the attack as targeting civilian rail operations.
Rescuers remained at the site into the morning hours as authorities assessed the full extent of the damage and casualties.
