Actress Selma Blair, best known for her roles in “Cruel Intentions,” “Legally Blonde” and “Hellboy,” was arrested Sunday night after an alleged altercation aboard a Delta Air Lines flight that left two flight attendants reporting injuries, authorities said Monday.
The 54-year-old actress was taken into custody at approximately 11 p.m. after the aircraft arrived at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York from Los Angeles, according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
Blair and one of the flight attendants were transported to a hospital for evaluation. The FBI is investigating the incident because it allegedly occurred aboard an aircraft.
Blair’s representatives said the incident stemmed from a medical emergency.
“Selma experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct. Upon landing, she received immediate medical attention and is currently in stable condition,” a representative said in a statement.
The Port Authority confirmed that two flight attendants reported injuries, although authorities had not publicly detailed all the circumstances surrounding the confrontation. The FBI acknowledged investigating a potential assault aboard the flight.
Delta Air Lines emphasized its commitment to passenger and crew safety following the incident.
“Delta has zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behavior, as the safety of our customers and crew always comes first,” the airline said.
The incident has also drawn attention to a previous in-flight episode involving Blair. In 2016, she apologized after making statements she later regretted during a flight from Cancun, Mexico, to Los Angeles. Blair said at the time that she had mixed alcohol with medication, causing her to black out.
Blair is widely known for playing Cecile Caldwell in the 1999 film “Cruel Intentions,” appearing in “Legally Blonde” in 2001 and portraying Liz Sherman in “Hellboy” in 2004.
In recent years, she has also become an advocate for people with disabilities after publicly revealing in 2018 that she had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, a chronic disease affecting the central nervous system.
The investigation into Sunday’s flight incident remains ongoing. Authorities have not publicly provided a complete account of what occurred aboard the aircraft.
