Spencer Pratt is asking questions about James Talarico that the Texas Democrats’ campaign may soon have to answer, after claiming his sources told him the Senate candidate was in a mental health facility while his campaign had stopped actively planning events.
“My sources are telling me Talarico is in a mental health facility. His campaign has stopped actively planning events in the vital homestretch of the campaign,” Pratt wrote Friday on X.

If this is true, this is actually a time to pray for Talarico. We should, of course, savagely mock his smug, awful… https://t.co/H2VVSPeQlF
The timing is raising eyebrows. Talarico is locked in a high-profile Senate contest against Republican Ken Paxton, and the final stretch of a campaign is typically when candidates ramp up public appearances, rallies and voter outreach. Instead, Pratt says, Talarico’s campaign appears to have hit the brakes, prompting questions about what is happening behind the scenes.
Pratt, who has been openly critical of Talarico’s political ambitions, did not hold back when it came to the Democrat’s advisers. He argued that they had pushed Talarico to be something he was not and questioned their handling of a campaign that is now facing heightened scrutiny.
But Pratt’s message went beyond political criticism. Despite his opposition to Talarico and his desire to see Paxton prevail, Pratt said the situation would warrant compassion if his claim proved true.
“If this is true, this is actually a time to pray for Talarico,” Pratt wrote, noting the intense pressure that comes with a major political campaign. He argued that no Senate seat is worth a candidate’s well-being and said the fight should be about ideas, not personal suffering.
“I'm praying that this isn't true, and he's OK,” Pratt added. “You want to win these fights on the battlefield of ideas, not the minefield of poor health.”
Pratt’s post has put a spotlight on two questions surrounding the Texas race: where Talarico is and why his campaign activity may have slowed at such a consequential moment. With Paxton competing to keep the seat in Republican hands, any uncertainty surrounding his opponent’s campaign is bound to draw attention.
Talarico’s campaign now faces growing interest in its schedule and the candidate’s status as the race moves toward Election Day. Pratt has made his concerns public, putting the focus squarely on a Democrat whose campaign is supposed to be making its final push against Paxton.
