President Donald Trump sharply criticized Republican Sen. John Cornyn and longtime GOP strategist Karl Rove, accusing both men of making it harder for Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton to win the upcoming midterm election against Democratic nominee James Talarico.

In a lengthy statement, Trump called Cornyn and Rove political insiders who were working against Paxton and urged Republicans who backed Cornyn in the primary to switch their support to Paxton ahead of the general election.

“Sadly, and very stupidly, John Cornyn, and his Liddle' Buddy, Super RINO, Karl Rove, are doing everything possible to make it hard for Ken Paxton,” Trump said, describing Paxton as the greatest attorney general in Texas history and one of the best in the country.

Trump also attacked Talarico, calling him a “Radical Left Lunatic” and the “ANTITHESIS of Texas Values.” He repeatedly used the nickname “James TalaFREAKO” to criticize the Democratic nominee.

The president singled out Cornyn over his defeat in the Republican Senate primary, arguing that the senator lost to Paxton by a wide margin despite receiving Trump's endorsement before the race. Trump said Cornyn and Rove “should be ashamed of themselves” and accused them of hurting both Texas and the country.

“If Ken Paxton loses, it will be because of WEAK and INEFFECTIVE Political Hacks like John Cornyn and Karl Rove,” Trump said, accusing the two Republicans of opposing him throughout his political career.

Trump then appealed directly to Cornyn's former supporters, calling on them to unite behind Paxton and help Republicans prevent Talarico from winning the seat.

As part of his appeal, Trump cited Texas' 2024 presidential election results, claiming he won 242 of the state's 254 counties, compared with Democratic nominee Kamala Harris carrying 12. He also highlighted his statewide popular-vote margin as evidence of his political strength in Texas.

“Ken Paxton will be a Great Senator, just like he is a Great Attorney General,” Trump said, arguing that Republicans could not afford to risk electing Talarico.

The statement underscores the divisions within the Texas Republican Party as Paxton prepares for a high-profile general election contest. Trump's intervention places additional pressure on Cornyn-aligned Republicans to support the nominee, even as the president continues to criticize prominent figures in his own party.
