President Donald Trump dismissed fears of an artificial intelligence apocalypse as a hoax during a surprise phone call with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang on Monday.

The call occurred while Huang spoke onstage at the All-In Summit in Los Angeles. Huang placed Trump on speakerphone for the audience. Trump stated that robots will not take over the world and described concerns about existential AI risks as unfounded.

"I'm telling you, it's all a hoax," Trump said. He added that data centers represent the oil of the next 20 to 25 years and generate wealth for people and states. Trump argued that critics play into the hands of political opponents and China, which he said would benefit from any slowdown in U.S. AI development.

The remarks came after several AI industry figures, including Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, called for a coordinated slowdown in frontier AI development over safety concerns. Trump rejected such proposals in the call and in multiple Truth Social posts earlier Monday. He asserted that the only guardrails needed come from strong presidential leadership and that existing criminal and regulatory tools suffice.

Huang agreed with the president during the exchange and emphasized that the United States should ensure broad benefits from AI across industries and states. He separately noted that some safety warnings deserve attention but described predictions of AI ending the world as not grounded in science.

Trump has consistently promoted rapid AI advancement as essential for economic growth and competition with China. The Nvidia call reinforced that stance at a moment when parts of Silicon Valley have expressed caution about unchecked progress.
