President Donald Trump says his administration will officially eliminate the term “artificial intelligence” from relevant government documents, insisting that “Super Intelligence” is a more accurate description of the technology.
Trump announced the planned move Tuesday in a Truth Social post, criticizing The Wall Street Journal for continuing to use the terminology he wants replaced. The announcement follows his September executive order directing federal agencies to adopt the new terminology.
“When will The Wall Street Journal start calling Artificial Intelligence (AI), a very bad and inaccurate name, SI (Super Intelligence), the name which virtually everyone else is using, or soon will be,” Trump wrote.
“In short order, we will be officially BANNING the term, ‘AI/Artificial Intelligence,’ in all relevant documents, and everything else, due to its inaccuracy,” he added.

Trump’s directive reflects his administration’s push to replace what it considers an outdated description of rapidly advancing technology. Under the September 29 executive order, federal executive departments and agencies are instructed to use “Super Intelligence” and “SI” instead of “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI” in official correspondence, public communications, websites, reports, policy documents, and other non-statutory records, to the maximum extent permitted by law.
The order does not require previously issued regulations, presidential actions, contracts, grants, or historical documents to be rewritten. It also directs the administration’s science and technology adviser to develop proposed legislative language establishing a federal definition of “Super Intelligence.”
Several federal agencies have already begun implementing the terminology change. The State Department instructed diplomats in its international organizations bureau to replace references to artificial intelligence with Super Intelligence in official communications, while the Justice Department directed employees to use the new terminology in most circumstances, including certain court filings when appropriate.
The administration argues that “Super Intelligence” better reflects the capabilities and potential of advanced systems than a term suggesting intelligence is merely artificial. The terminology shift is part of Trump’s broader effort to establish the United States as the global leader in the development and deployment of the technology.
Trump’s latest statement signals that he intends to push the change further across relevant government documents and other settings. The scope of any additional implementation will depend on the administration’s actions and applicable legal requirements.
