President Donald Trump headlined a campaign rally Tuesday in Wasilla, Alaska, to boost Republican candidates ahead of the November 3 midterm elections. The event at the Curtis D. Menard Memorial Sports Center focused heavily on supporting U.S. Sen. Dan Sullivan in his reelection bid against Democrat Mary Peltola.
Trump also endorsed Bernadette Wilson in the state's gubernatorial race hours before taking the stage. He urged Republicans to unite behind her as the top vote-getter in the August primary among three GOP candidates. The other contenders, Treg Taylor and Dave Bronson, attended the rally.
The appearance underscores the importance of Alaska's Senate contest, which could help determine Republican control of the chamber. Sullivan faces a tight race in a state Trump carried by double digits in 2024. Polls have shown the race as competitive or slightly favoring Peltola.
Trump highlighted his administration's support for Alaska's energy sector and criticized Democratic policies on oil and gas development. He addressed high energy prices and an ongoing conflict in the Middle East, stating the latter would end soon while emphasizing domestic production issues.
The rally drew a large crowd, with reports of attendees watching outside on screens. It followed a similar event in Fairbanks the prior week headlined by Vice President JD Vance. Trump also spoke in support of U.S. Rep. Nick Begich.
Protests occurred outside the venue, but the focus remained on mobilizing Republican voters three weeks before Election Day. Trump has conducted multiple campaign stops across the country in recent days to strengthen GOP prospects in key races.
