President Donald Trump said Sunday that there was “no winner” in the Lindsay Clancy case after a Massachusetts jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict in the trial over the deaths of her three children.

“There is no winner there. There’s no win, no matter what you do. Three children are dead,” Trump said.

Trump also pointed out that the case is being handled by Massachusetts authorities rather than the federal government.

“It’s actually a state situation, you know, not a federal,” Trump said.

Clancy, a former labor and delivery nurse from Duxbury, Massachusetts, was charged with first-degree murder in the January 2023 deaths of her five-year-old daughter Cora, three-year-old son Dawson and eight-month-old son Callan. Clancy admitted killing the children but argued that she was not criminally responsible because she was suffering from postpartum psychosis at the time.

Her nearly six-week trial ended in a mistrial on Sept. 4 after jurors spent more than 38 hours deliberating without reaching a unanimous decision. The deadlock left the case unresolved, with prosecutors facing a decision over whether to seek another trial.

Clancy remains in a psychiatric hospital following a suicide attempt after the 2023 killings that left her paralyzed. Her attorney has since asked the court to acquit her rather than allow a second trial, arguing that the evidence does not establish criminal responsibility. A hearing is scheduled for Sept. 29.

Trump's comments come as the case has received renewed national attention following the mistrial and debate over Clancy's mental state at the time of the killings. Because the prosecution was brought under Massachusetts law, decisions about a potential retrial or other disposition of the case remain with state prosecutors and the Massachusetts courts.
