President Donald Trump will hold two pre-election rallies in Iowa on October 22 and November 1, according to a news release from the Republican Party of Iowa, as Republicans work to maintain control of Congress and win key statewide contests in the November 3 midterm elections.
The rallies are expected to boost Republican candidates during the final stretch of the campaign, including Zach Lahn, the GOP nominee for governor, and Rep. Ashley Hinson, the Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate. Both races are important to Iowa Republicans as they seek to strengthen the party's position at the state and federal levels.
Lahn is challenging Democratic gubernatorial nominee Rob Sand in the race to lead Iowa. The contest will determine who succeeds in governing the state, with Republicans looking to retain the governor's office.
Hinson, meanwhile, is running for the Senate seat being vacated by retiring Republican Sen. Joni Ernst. She faces Democratic nominee Josh Turek in a race that could factor into the broader battle for control of the Senate. Trump previously endorsed Hinson in the Republican primary.
The president's two appearances will give Iowa Republicans an opportunity to rally their supporters and energize voters ahead of Election Day. His November 1 event is scheduled just two days before the November 3 vote, when voters will decide races across the state and country.
