President Donald Trump is set to launch his midterm campaign rallies next week with appearances in Oklahoma and Alabama as Republicans work to maintain their congressional majorities and strengthen turnout heading into the November elections.

Trump will hold a rally Thursday, Oct. 1, at the Choctaw Event Center in Durant, Oklahoma, before traveling to Mobile, Alabama, for another event Friday. The Republican Party's official event listing confirms the Durant rally will begin at 6 p.m. Central Time, with doors opening at 2 p.m.

The Oklahoma appearance will include support for Republican gubernatorial nominee Mike Mazzei, whom Trump endorsed during the state's GOP primary. Mazzei is facing Democratic nominee Cyndi Munson in the November election.

Durant's location also puts the rally near the Texas border and within the Dallas-Fort Worth media market. Republicans are closely watching Texas, where Attorney General Ken Paxton is challenging Democrat James Talarico for the U.S. Senate seat, while Gov. Greg Abbott is facing Democrat Gina Hinojosa.

Trump's Mobile rally will take place near the Florida Panhandle, another heavily Republican region where turnout could have implications for several GOP-backed candidates. The Alabama stop also carries historical significance for Trump, who held his first major rally in Mobile more than a decade ago.

The events come after Trump pledged to campaign in 35 of the most competitive congressional districts during the final stretch before the midterms. His first October stops, however, are in states that have historically provided strong Republican support.

Republican National Committee spokesperson Natalie Baldassarre said Trump's campaign appearances are intended to activate voters who may be less likely to participate in midterm elections. The RNC has also emphasized that the Oklahoma and Alabama locations can reach voters across state lines and surrounding media markets.
