President Donald Trump declared Monday that the only guardrails needed for artificial intelligence are a strong and smart president like himself.
In a Truth Social post, Trump wrote, "The only control or 'guardrails' that AI needs is a STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT, and the U.S.A. has that, in spades!" He added that the Trump Administration has already prevented AI companies from engaging in bad or potentially bad activities, specifically calling out Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei for now pretending to be a perfect little angel.

President Trump's comments came in response to weekend calls from AI leaders, including Amodei, for the industry to slow the pace of development over safety concerns. Amodei published a nearly 4,000-word essay arguing that AI capabilities must advance more deliberately to allow safety research to catch up.
The president dismissed broader regulatory pushes as part of a "SICK conspiracy" against AI and data centers that would only benefit China. "We already have tremendous CRIMINAL and REGULATORY power over these companies!" Trump stated. "WHOEVER WINS AI, WINS! We are leading China, and all others, and will continue to do so."
Trump's position aligns with his administration's focus on maintaining U.S. technological superiority without additional constraints that could hinder innovation. He has repeatedly warned that ceding ground in AI would empower adversaries.
The remarks follow reports of tech stock declines amid the safety debate. Existing criminal and regulatory authorities, Trump argued, already provide adequate tools to address risks.
Industry figures such as OpenAI's Sam Altman and Elon Musk also weighed in on the slowdown discussion over the weekend, but Trump maintained that his oversight eliminates the need for further measures.
