Vice President JD Vance mocked Democratic Texas Senate nominee James Talarico during his address at the Republican Midterm Convention Thursday, taking aim at the Texas Democrat with a joke about his internet activity.

Vance said of Talarico: “A guy that age who was so obsessed and focused on transgender children. I don't know about you, but I never want to see that guy's web browser history.”

The remark came as Vance discussed Talarico during his keynote speech at the American Airlines Center, where Republicans gathered for the second and final night of their midterm convention.

Talarico, a Texas state representative and Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate, is challenging Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton in the 2026 Senate race. Talarico has faced sustained criticism from Republicans over past comments on religion, gender and other cultural issues. He recently said he had “missed the mark” on some of his previous statements regarding sex and transgender athletes.

Vance’s comment was part of a broader series of attacks by Republicans against Talarico during the Dallas convention. President Donald Trump also targeted the Democrat during his remarks, while Talarico spent Thursday campaigning in Dallas and criticizing Paxton over the handling of records related to Jeffrey Epstein.

The exchange added Talarico to the list of Democratic candidates singled out by Republican speakers during the convention as the party seeks to keep the Texas Senate seat in Republican control.
