Apple TV's freshman horror-comedy "Widow’s Bay" dominated the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards on Monday night, securing 14 wins and establishing a new single-season record for a comedy series.

The show about oddball residents on a haunted New England island took home Outstanding Comedy Series, along with awards for lead actor Matthew Rhys, supporting actor Stephen Root, supporting actress Kate O’Flynn, writing by creator Katie Dippold, and directing by Hiro Murai. It also earned multiple technical and other honors from the prior Creative Arts Emmys.

This total surpassed the previous record of 13 wins set by fellow Apple TV series "The Studio" in 2025. "Widow’s Bay" received 19 nominations for its debut season.

Rhys achieved a rare double victory, winning lead actor in a comedy for "Widow’s Bay" and lead actor in a limited series for Netflix's "The Beast in Me." He became the first performer to win lead acting Emmys in limited, comedy, and drama categories.

Murai marked history as the first person of Asian heritage to win directing for a comedy series. Dippold thanked her mother and "the evil entity on the island" during her acceptance speech.

"The Pitt" repeated as Outstanding Drama Series winner, with Noah Wyle earning his second consecutive lead drama actor award. "Hacks" star Jean Smart claimed her fifth Emmy for the series. Limited series honors went to "DTF St. Louis."

The ceremony highlighted strong performances from original programming amid a field that included established shows like "Hacks" and "The Bear." Apple TV finished with a company record of 29 wins overall.
