Former Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard shared an emotional video update Thursday on her husband Abraham Williams' battle with a rare bone cancer, nearly three months after she resigned from the Trump administration to focus on his care.
Gabbard said in the video posted to X that her husband was diagnosed earlier this year with sacral chordoma, an extremely rare form of bone cancer affecting the tailbone. He underwent an eight-hour surgery to remove the tumor and surrounding tissue.
"A few weeks after the surgery was done, the pathologist and the doctors said that they are confident that they were able to cut out all of the cancerous bone and tissue," Gabbard stated. She described the diagnosis and treatment process as a very challenging time.
Williams has since begun rigorous physical therapy and is progressing well, according to Gabbard, though he experiences frustration with the pace of recovery. She noted that frequent MRIs will be required to monitor for any recurrence.
Gabbard resigned from her position as Director of National Intelligence on May 22, with her departure effective June 30. In her resignation letter, she cited her husband's diagnosis as the reason for stepping away from public service. President Trump accepted the resignation and praised her service while wishing Williams a speedy recovery.
The update comes as Gabbard has remained out of the spotlight since leaving the White House role to support her family through the health crisis.
