Democratic Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner is facing new questions after a report detailed how his wife alerted his campaign to sexually explicit text messages he had sent to several women.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Amy Gertner, whom Platner married in 2024, discovered the messages early in their marriage during the spring of 2025. She disclosed the information to campaign aides in late August of that year, shortly after Platner launched his bid for the Senate seat. Gertner reportedly shared the details during opposition research efforts to ensure the texts would not create political risks for her husband.

Platner, an oyster farmer and combat veteran, has already drawn criticism for past social media posts, including comments from 2013 that blamed sexual assault victims for not taking sufficient precautions. Those remarks resurfaced earlier in the campaign cycle and prompted attacks from rivals such as Gov. Janet Mills.

The latest revelation adds to the challenges for Platner in his effort to unseat Republican Sen. Susan Collins. Campaign aides have not publicly commented on the texts, and Platner has not issued a statement addressing the report as of Saturday evening.

The disclosure highlights ongoing scrutiny of Platner's personal conduct and past online activity as the Democratic primary and general election approach.
