Republican Representative and House Majority Whip Tom Emmer delivered a blunt message on immigration and assimilation during his NRC remarks this evening, telling those unhappy with the United States to leave. The Minnesota Republican's remarks spark familiar debates over immigrant communities in his state. He said individuals who refuse to embrace American identity should depart.

Emmer's remarks echoed his June comments at a Faith & Freedom Coalition event on Capitol Hill, where he stated that immigrants who do not assimilate "should go the hell back to where they came from." He emphasized that coming to America means becoming an American, regardless of background, and expressed frustration with political correctness that prevents open discussion.

The earlier comments drew immediate pushback from Rep. Ilhan Omar, a Somali-born Democrat representing Minnesota. Omar responded on social media that she had "assimilated all the way to Congress" yet still faced such criticism. Other Democrats labeled the statements racist.

Emmer's position aligns with broader Republican efforts to enforce assimilation standards amid concerns over fraud cases linked to some immigrant communities and anti-American rhetoric from public figures.

Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed also faced Emmer's wrath during his speech earlier in the night. El-Sayed, who is not officially a member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), has nonetheless been closely affiliated with the movement and attended multiple DSA events. El-Sayed has faced scrutiny over his associations with streamer Hasan Piker, who has made statements expressing hatred for America and statements that the U.S.A deserved the 9/11 terror attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people.

Emmer and other conservatives have pointed to such voices as examples of individuals who undermine national unity.
