President Donald Trump announced Monday the completion of additional beautification work at several Washington, D.C., landmarks, including fountains, pools and statues at Meridian Hill Park and other prominent sites throughout the capital. The work is being carried out under his executive order, “Making the District of Columbia Safe and Beautiful.”

Trump highlighted the projects in a series of Truth Social posts, pointing to improvements involving the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, George Mason Memorial fountain, Joan of Arc statue and Dante Memorial Statue.

The statues were polished, while the FDR Memorial and George Mason Memorial fountain received infrastructure repairs. Trump said the FDR Memorial's fountains and pools had gone five years without repairs and that more than 100,000 gallons of water circulate through its seven granite fountains and pools. He also said the George Mason Memorial fountain had gone eight years since its previous repairs.

Meridian Hill Park, also known as Malcolm X Park, underwent a major rehabilitation project this year. The National Park Service said the work included restoration of historic concrete and masonry, landscaping, drainage improvements, repairs to park features, and rehabilitation of the park's iconic cascading fountain. The lower plaza, fountain and reflecting pool reopened May 14.

The projects are part of a broader Washington beautification effort connected to preparations for America's 250th anniversary. The National Park Service has been working on fountains, historic landscapes and aging infrastructure at locations throughout the District under Trump's executive order.

The administration's efforts include repairs to more than 20 fountains and refurbishment of roughly 30 statues and monuments across Washington.

The Meridian Hill Park project has not been without an issue. After its reopening, the park's cascading fountain developed murky brown water. The National Park Service attributed the discoloration to sediment released as water began flowing through pipes that had been out of service for years.

Trump's latest announcement adds Meridian Hill Park and several other historic landmarks to the administration's ongoing effort to repair aging infrastructure and improve Washington's public spaces as the capital prepares for the nation's 250th anniversary.
