President Donald Trump warned supporters that Democrats would impeach him if Republicans lose control of Congress in the November midterm elections.

Speaking at a rally in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Trump said a Democratic takeover would end key elements of his agenda. "If we lose the midterms, I am going to be impeached," he told the crowd. "They're going to impeach me. They have no idea why."

Trump linked the warning directly to policy outcomes. "If we lose, you're going to lose your border, you're going to lose your tax cuts, you're going to lose everything that we've done," he said. He added that taxes would rise, wages would fall, and businesses would leave the country under Democratic leadership.

The remarks came as Trump campaigned for Darline Graham, the Republican candidate in South Carolina's Senate runoff election scheduled for August 25. Graham was appointed to the seat in July after the death of her brother, former Sen. Lindsey Graham.

Trump urged voters to treat the midterm contests as a referendum on his presidency. He said Republicans must turn out or risk losing their border security measures and recent tax reductions.

The 2026 midterms will decide control of the House and Senate for the final two years of Trump's term. Analysts expect Democrats to make gains in the House, while the Senate remains more competitive. A Democratic majority in the House would give the party the power to launch investigations and pursue impeachment proceedings.

Trump has been impeached twice before, in 2019 and 2021, and acquitted by the Senate both times. He noted his status as the only president to face that process on multiple occasions.

Some Democratic lawmakers have already introduced impeachment resolutions during Trump's current term, though none have advanced far. The president framed the midterm stakes around preserving his administration's priorities on immigration enforcement and economic policy.
