The U.S. Army's 9th Brigade Engineer Battalion, part of the 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Stewart, Georgia, is offering a special four-day pass to play Grand Theft Auto VI as an incentive for soldiers who reenlist.
A memorandum established the program for active-duty soldiers signing contracts between August 1 and November 14. The pass is timed to coincide with the game's expected November release.
Twenty soldiers have already selected this option, according to an Army spokesperson. Lt. Col. Angel Tomko confirmed the memo's authenticity and noted that the command sought to boost excitement around reenlistment.
The incentive applies specifically to the 9th Brigade Engineer Battalion. It requires a minimum two-year commitment in some reports.
Grand Theft Auto VI has generated significant anticipation as one of the most anticipated video game launches. The Army has used targeted perks in the past to address retention needs.
The program remains active as of this week, with the deadline set for mid-November.
