Actor RJ Mitte, best known for playing Walter White Jr. on “Breaking Bad,” has died at 34, his representatives confirmed Monday. He died in Brownsville, a city in southern Texas near the Mexican border.
“It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of beloved actor, philanthropist, and passionate disability rights advocate RJ Mitte,” his representatives said in a statement.
TMZ reported that Mitte died by suicide, citing law enforcement officials, who said the investigation remains ongoing.
Mitte rose to prominence playing the teenage son of Walter White, portrayed by Bryan Cranston, and Skyler White, played by Anna Gunn, on “Breaking Bad.” The acclaimed AMC drama aired from 2008 to 2013, and Mitte’s character, also known as Flynn, became one of the show’s recognizable figures.
His role also reflected an aspect of his own life. Mitte had cerebral palsy, a condition that affects movement and posture, and his character on the series had the same condition. He spoke publicly about growing up with a disability and used his platform to promote greater understanding and representation.
Outside of acting, Mitte became an advocate for disability rights, working to expand opportunities for performers with disabilities in film and television. He also spoke out against bullying and promoted greater inclusion in the entertainment industry.
His representatives remembered him not only for his work on screen but also for his advocacy and philanthropic efforts, which helped bring attention to the experiences of people living with disabilities.
