Rep. Brian Jack (R-GA) announced Wednesday that he is running to become the next chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), the campaign organization responsible for helping elect Republicans to the U.S. House of Representatives.

Jack confirmed his candidacy in a letter to Republican colleagues, telling them that the effort to regain the House majority begins immediately. His announcement comes one day after Republicans suffered significant losses in the November 3 midterm elections, handing control of the chamber to Democrats for the first time since 2022.

Jack currently serves as deputy chairman of the NRCC, working alongside Chairman Richard Hudson (R-NC). Hudson was among the Republican incumbents who lost their reelection bids Tuesday, creating an opening for new leadership within the organization.

Before entering Congress, Jack served as President Donald Trump's White House political director and worked closely with the president's political operation. He has also played a role in recruiting Republican congressional candidates and coordinating with Trump and House Republican leadership.

The NRCC chairmanship will be an important position as Republicans attempt to regain seats and compete for the House majority in the next election cycle. The incoming chairman will oversee the party's congressional campaign strategy, fundraising efforts, candidate recruitment and support for Republican candidates nationwide.

Jack's announcement adds another contest to the broader Republican leadership shake-up following Tuesday's election. House Republicans are also preparing to select a new leader in the minority after Speaker Mike Johnson announced he would not seek to lead the conference in the next Congress.
