Iran has sent its conditions for reengaging in negotiations with President Donald Trump through Qatar, according to Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council. Rezaei told Al Jazeera on Saturday that Tehran had communicated its terms through mediators and was awaiting a response from Washington.

The announcement comes as Iran signals a willingness to use indirect diplomatic channels to explore an agreement with the United States. Qatar has previously served as a mediator in regional negotiations involving Iran and has been involved in efforts concerning cease-fires and hostage releases.

Iranian officials have previously tied negotiations to several demands, including an end to U.S. military operations and the naval blockade, the release of Iranian assets held abroad, and a broader regional cease-fire. Rezaei has also said Iran would not agree to reopen the Strait of Hormuz until its conditions are addressed.

The latest message comes as Trump has indicated that he is considering how to bring the nearly seven-month conflict to an end. Trump said Thursday that he faces a “big decision” over whether to resume large-scale attacks against Iran, while also saying that Tehran wants to make a deal.

Qatar has emerged as one of the channels being used to communicate between Washington and Tehran. The Gulf nation has previously helped facilitate indirect discussions during periods of heightened tensions between Iran and the United States.

The White House had not publicly responded to Rezaei’s latest comments at the time of reporting. The two sides remain engaged in an unresolved conflict, with diplomatic efforts continuing alongside military operations.
