New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart left Monday night’s game against the Los Angeles Rams with an apparent left knee injury after taking a hard hit on the team’s opening drive. Dart was hit high and low by Rams defenders Byron Young and Josaiah Stewart as he attempted a third-down pass.

Dart remained on the field for several moments while holding his left knee before walking off under his own power. He was checked in the medical tent before heading to the locker room, and the Giants subsequently turned to veteran quarterback Jameis Winston.

The Giants listed Dart as questionable to return. There was no immediate diagnosis beyond the apparent knee injury, leaving his status for the remainder of Monday night’s game uncertain.

Dart entered the matchup after an impressive season-opening performance against the Dallas Cowboys. In his second NFL season, the former Mississippi quarterback completed 23 of 29 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns while adding 54 rushing yards in New York’s 28-20 victory.

The injury is an early concern for a Giants team that has quickly made Dart a central part of its offense. Further updates on his condition are expected following Monday night’s game.
