House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said Sunday that Democrats have not ruled out pursuing the impeachment of President Donald Trump if the party regains control of the House in November.

Appearing on ABC's "This Week," Jeffries was asked directly whether Democrats would move to impeach Trump on day one of a new majority. "No, we haven't ruled anything in and we haven't ruled anything out in terms of impeachment," he told host George Stephanopoulos.

Jeffries emphasized that any accountability measures would follow investigations led by Reps. Jamie Raskin of Maryland on the Judiciary Committee and Robert Garcia of California on the Oversight Committee. "We've got to follow the facts, apply the law, be guided by the Constitution, and then let the chips fall where they may, in the best interests of the American people," he said.

The New York Democrat framed the party's primary mission around winning the majority to address the cost of living, lower gas and grocery prices, make housing and health care more affordable, and combat what he called "unprecedented corruption." He added that Democrats would hold accountable anyone who has "been screwing over the American people, shortchanging the American people or stealing from the American people."

Democrats need a net gain of three seats to take the gavel, and recent polling gives them a 68 percent chance of success in the midterms. Jeffries noted the party's strategy centers on economic issues rather than making impeachment a central campaign theme.

Trump has faced two prior impeachments during his first term, both of which ended in Senate acquittals. Republicans have warned that renewed Democratic control could lead to another round of partisan proceedings that distract from legislative priorities.

Jeffries' comments come amid broader Democratic messaging that ties Republican candidates to Trump administration policies on trade, foreign policy, and domestic spending. The interview occurred 51 days before the November elections.
