Meta’s Muse AI agent has surpassed ChatGPT’s early mobile download pace after attracting roughly 2.8 million global installs during its first 12 days, according to data from Sensor Tower and Apptopia.

The app, which launched Sept. 8, reached approximately 1.8 million downloads on iOS in the United States and Canada during the same period. ChatGPT recorded about 1.3 million downloads across the two markets during its comparable post-launch window.

Muse also reached an estimated 642,000 daily active users in the United States and climbed to No. 1 on the U.S. App Store’s free app chart, temporarily moving ahead of ChatGPT.

Meta is marketing Muse as a personal AI agent designed to perform tasks rather than simply respond to prompts. The system can handle multi-step activities such as managing inboxes, booking travel, completing forms and assisting with online shopping.

The company is also using its existing social-media platforms to help distribute the service, giving Muse access to a large potential user base. Meta has established early partnerships with companies including PayPal, Expedia and Shopify as it develops the agent’s ability to interact with other services.

The rapid adoption puts Muse among the strongest consumer AI launches since ChatGPT and highlights growing demand for AI systems capable of carrying out tasks on behalf of users.

The launch also comes as major technology companies compete to move AI beyond traditional chatbot functions and toward autonomous agents that can perform actions across multiple applications and services.
