Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised President Donald Trump as a critical partner in Israel’s confrontation with Iran during an address to the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Thursday.

Netanyahu thanked Trump for what he called his “bold leadership,” saying the president recognized the threat posed by Iran and was willing to take military action rather than allow Tehran’s nuclear and military capabilities to continue developing.

“In this battle against the barbarians, we've had no greater partner than President Trump,” Netanyahu said. “I thank him. I thank him for his bold leadership.”

Netanyahu described the U.S. and Israel as having worked together directly during the conflict, including joint military missions over Iranian territory. He said American and Israeli forces targeted Iran’s military infrastructure and nuclear facilities as part of the campaign.

“So Israel and America acted together not only to protect ourselves, but to save civilization,” Netanyahu said. “Brave American pilots, alongside brave Israeli pilots, flew joint missions over the skies of Iran.”

The Israeli prime minister also revisited his longstanding warnings about Iran’s nuclear program. He recalled drawing a red line during a U.N. speech 14 years ago and said the eventual decision to strike Iran’s nuclear facilities was difficult operationally but straightforward from his perspective because of the potential consequences of allowing Iran to acquire nuclear weapons.

Netanyahu characterized the broader conflict since Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023, attack as a “seven-front war,” naming Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, Iran, Iran-backed militias in Iraq and Syria, and Palestinian militants in the West Bank.

He also credited cooperation between Washington and Jerusalem with helping secure the return of Israel’s remaining hostages.

Netanyahu’s address came days after Trump used his own U.N. appearance to defend the U.S. military campaign against Iran while calling for Tehran to negotiate an agreement that would prevent it from rebuilding its nuclear capabilities. U.S. and Iranian officials have also held indirect talks in New York through mediators as the conflict continues.

For Netanyahu, the speech served as a public declaration that Israel’s military campaign against Iran was closely tied to American support and Trump’s willingness to use U.S. power against Tehran.
