A Pentagon inspector general report released today details extensive damage from Iranian strikes on U.S. military bases and diplomatic facilities across the Middle East during Operation Epic Fury.

The report, covering developments through June 30 in the seventh month of the conflict that began in late February, states that Iranian attacks damaged or destroyed hundreds of buildings and structures at bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Oman, and Jordan. U.S. and partner forces intercepted more than 6,000 Iranian drones and 1,500 ballistic missiles, though some munitions reached their targets.

Damage to U.S. diplomatic facilities in Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates totaled approximately $184 million, with Iraq accounting for the largest share at over $157 million from more than 600 attacks. The U.S. naval base in Bahrain, a key logistics hub, was struck by drones and ballistic missiles, forcing the diversion of sustainment resources to more distant locations.

The report also notes the loss or damage of dozens of U.S. aircraft, including at least 30 MQ-9 Reaper drones, seven KC-135 refueling aircraft, four F-15Es, and other assets. Total costs for the operation reached $33.4 billion as of late June, including $22.3 billion in expended munitions.

The findings represent the first comprehensive public accounting of the physical toll on U.S. forces and infrastructure in the region. US Central Command provided the data on base damage to investigators.
