Vice President Sara Duterte called on President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. to resign during a rally outside the Quezon City Hall of Justice on Friday.

Duterte branded Marcos the "problem of the nation" and accused his administration of corruption, abuse of power, and political harassment. She spoke after the Quezon City Regional Trial Court postponed her arraignment on grave threat charges at the request of her legal team.

"Remember to keep calling for the departure of our nation’s problem, whose name is Bongbong Marcos. Resign, get out of there. You are a liar, you are abusive, you are corrupt," Duterte told supporters.

She also likened Marcos to his late father, former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr., and accused the current leader of ingratitude toward voters. Duterte further claimed Marcos suffers from drug addiction, saying his thinking no longer passes through reality.

The charges against Duterte stem from statements she made in a November 2024 online press conference, in which she said she had spoken to someone about killing Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and then-House Speaker Martin Romualdez if anything happened to her. The Department of Justice filed the case in August.

The postponement came as Duterte's camp filed a motion with the court and a petition with the Supreme Court seeking to nullify the proceedings. The alleged threat also appears in one of four articles of impeachment she faces in the Senate.

Malacañang responded sharply from India, where Marcos is attending the 18th BRICS Summit. Palace Press Officer Claire Castro questioned whether Duterte was in the right state of mind and suggested the remarks stemmed from anxiety. Castro countered by referencing former President Rodrigo Duterte's past admissions of marijuana and fentanyl use.

The exchange highlights the deepening rift between the once-allied Duterte and Marcos camps, which has led to multiple legal actions on both sides in recent months.
