White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt shared joyful news on Instagram Thursday, announcing the birth of her second child, a baby girl named Viviana.
Leavitt, 28, posted a photo of the newborn, writing, "On May 1st, Viviana aka 'Vivi' joined our family, and our hearts instantly exploded with love. She is perfect and healthy, and her big brother is joyfully adjusting to life with his new baby sister. We are enjoying every moment in our blissful newborn bubble. Thank you to everyone who reached out with prayers during my pregnancy - I truly felt them throughout the entire experience. God is Good." The post quickly garnered over 365,000 likes and 15,000 comments, with users offering congratulations and blessings.
Viviana is the second child of Leavitt and her husband, Nicholas Riccio, a 60-year-old real estate developer from New Hampshire. The couple welcomed their son, Nicholas "Niko" Riccio, in July 2024. They met in 2022 and married in 2025.
Leavitt has made history as the first White House press secretary to give birth while in the role. Appointed by President Trump, the New Hampshire native became the youngest press secretary in U.S. history at age 27 when she took the podium in early 2025. She continued briefing reporters late into her pregnancy, telling the press on April 24 that the baby was due "any minute."
Leavitt is now on maternity leave for an unspecified period, with plans to return later this year. The White House has arranged a rotation of officials to handle briefings in her absence, starting with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, followed by others, including Vice President JD Vance and Cabinet members. President Trump may also step in. This follows her brief maternity leave after Niko's birth, when she returned to work after just four days during the 2024 campaign.
The announcement drew widespread positive reactions across social media and news outlets, highlighting Leavitt's balance of high-profile duties and family life.
