Russia warned Thursday that it could strike British military targets inside and outside Ukraine in response to Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory using long-range British cruise missiles.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova delivered the statement during a news briefing in Moscow. She said any British military installations and equipment in Ukraine and beyond its borders could be targeted.

Zakharova added that Britain was one step away from becoming legally complicit in what she called terrorism against Russian civilians. She warned of catastrophic consequences unless London changed course.

The warning followed Russia's accusation that Ukraine fired British Storm Shadow missiles at a shopping center in the Russian-controlled city of Donetsk. Russian officials said the attack wounded civilians, including children.

Zakharova also stated that Britain and France were playing with fire by supplying sensitive missile technology to Ukraine. She accused London and Paris of trying to dodge responsibility for deep strikes into Russia by shifting assembly roles to Ukrainian forces.

Britain announced earlier this week that it would release blueprints for British-made components of the Storm Shadow missile, allowing Ukraine to work with France on production of the long-range weapon. France has already licensed its Scalp version of the missile.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov separately dismissed U.S. media reports suggesting Russia might attack a NATO member state. He called such reports scare-story material with no connection to Russian intentions.

The latest exchange comes amid ongoing Ukrainian strikes deep into Russia using Western-supplied weapons. Russia has repeatedly warned NATO allies against enabling such attacks.
