The U.S. State Department announced Tuesday it will issue limited-edition passports featuring an image of President Donald Trump to celebrate America's 250th anniversary of independence in July. The special "America250" designs include customized artwork while retaining all standard security features.
Mockups of the passports show Trump's portrait centered on the inside cover, overlaid amid text from the Declaration of Independence and flanked by an American flag, with his signature rendered in gold below the image. Another interior page displays John Trumbull's painting of the founding fathers signing the Declaration. The front cover enlarges "United States of America" above the traditional crest, and the back cover modifies the 1777 American flag to incorporate "250" among its 13 stars.
State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott said, "As the United States celebrates America's 250th anniversary in July, the State Department is preparing to release a limited number of specially designed U.S. passports to commemorate this historic occasion." He added that the passports feature "customized artwork and enhanced imagery while maintaining the same security features that make the U.S. Passport the most secure documents in the world."
The passports will become available this summer exclusively through the Washington Passport Agency for any U.S. citizen applying for a new passport, with no additional cost and supplies available while they last. The number to be produced remains unspecified.
This initiative ties into the broader America250 commemoration organized under the Trump administration, which includes major events such as a Grand Prix race on the National Mall, a UFC fight on the White House South Lawn and a Great American State Fair featuring pavilions from all 50 states. Similar commemorative items already feature Trump's likeness, including national parks passes alongside George Washington's image and gold coins approved for the anniversary.
The administration has incorporated Trump's image and signature into various federal elements since he took office, such as upcoming U.S. currency, renamed cultural institutions like the Trump-Kennedy Center and programs including Trump Accounts for children's savings. The passport design marks the first inclusion of a sitting president's portrait in such a document, according to reports.
