President Donald Trump on Monday criticized people warning that artificial intelligence could destroy the world and that data centers are harmful to local communities, comparing them to those who previously warned about the dangers of climate change.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump called climate change a “HOAX” and accused AI and data-center critics of moving on to a new cause after their previous warnings failed to materialize as predicted. He also described them as “Revolutionaries” pursuing what he called a “Bad and Evil Cause.”
President Trump has increasingly defended the expansion of artificial intelligence and data centers as concerns grow over AI safety, energy use, and the effects of large data centers on local communities. He has argued that slowing U.S. development could benefit China.
The post comes amid renewed debate over whether advanced AI systems need additional government regulation. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and other technology leaders have recently called for greater safeguards and a slower pace of development, while Trump has rejected calls for additional restrictions.
Trump also suggested that some of those opposing AI and data-center expansion may have interests that conflict with the United States, writing that Americans would soon discover they were “working for people that do not have the best interests of the United States in mind.”
