President Donald Trump on Tuesday denied an Axios report claiming that his administration was prepared to offer Iran sanctions relief and access to frozen funds in exchange for concrete concessions on its nuclear program.

Trump responded to the report on Truth Social, writing that the claim was "untrue" and that he had "offered them NOTHING!" He called the Axios report a "HOAX" and demanded that the outlet withdraw what he described as a fake story.

Axios had reported Monday, citing unnamed U.S. officials, that Trump was willing to provide Iran with economic relief and release frozen Iranian funds if Tehran took concrete steps to curb its nuclear program. The report came as Qatar and other regional mediators worked to facilitate indirect discussions between the United States and Iran.

According to Axios, a U.S. official familiar with the discussions described the indirect talks as "positive and constructive" and said Iran had indicated it was flexible on nuclear issues. The official also said the two sides remained divided over when commitments would be made and which country would act first.

The same official said the Strait of Hormuz remained a central factor in the negotiations and argued that the U.S. blockade and sanctions were continuing to weaken Iran's position. The official said Trump remained committed to preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

Axios also reported that the administration remained skeptical of Iranian promises because previous agreements between the two countries had broken down.
