President Donald Trump sharply criticized NBA superstar LeBron James on Thursday for appearing to continue warm-up motions while the national anthem played before the Philadelphia 76ers' season opener.
Trump posted on Truth Social alongside video footage from Tuesday's game at Madison Square Garden, where James stood in line with teammates but performed arm swings resembling a golf swing and basketball shooting motions as the Star-Spangled Banner was performed. Most teammates remained largely still.
"While listening to our National Anthem, LeBron James disrespects our Country!" Trump wrote. "I said right from the beginning that he’s no good, a TOTAL DISGRACE. LeBron James should apologize to all of those Great American Warriors and Heroes who died for the American Flag, and all that our Country stands for!"

The 76ers lost their opener to the New York Knicks that night. James, in his first season with Philadelphia after signing earlier in the year, has a long history of public disagreements with Trump dating back years.
James responded to the criticism later Thursday night after the 76ers' home game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. "It's a slow news day at the office, you know," he said. "Slow news day in the office."
Trump repeated his comments at a campaign rally in Iowa Thursday evening, calling the incident a notable story. The president has long advocated that athletes stand respectfully during the anthem, a position that gained prominence during earlier controversies over kneeling protests.
James, the NBA's all-time leading scorer now in his 24th season at age 41, has previously engaged in social and political activism. His teammates and coach Nick Nurse have focused on on-court performance amid the external attention.
The video clip Trump shared included text overlay noting James appeared to be working on his golf swing pregame. Reports indicate James has engaged in similar movements in past games as well.
